    Email Concerns, Still Seeing Things

Just documenting that I still believe there are others issues going on that is causing problems on my end. The IMAP still is a lot slower then it should be as well as lately I thought I wasI had several occasions where I was deleting the wrong emails myself, now it points to a server issue.

IMAP was taking too long so I logged in via webmail, saw several emails with no subject and no from in the message pane.  As soon as I deleted then I notices that several emails I was keeping in my inbox was gone.  Went back into thunderbird and change away from and back to inbox and there were gone there also.  This tells me that SmarterMail and/or the server is displaying incorrectly.  This is causing me to incorrectly delete emails.  Is anyone else seeing any of this?

I wish the forums would display views to know how many people will actually see this.

Re: Email Concerns, Still Seeing Things

Taking currently 20+ minutes to download a 2.3 meg attachment with only 288k downloaded so far.

According to speedtest.net I am running 7,173 kb/s down and 1,055 kb/s upload to New Mexico area.

According to speakeasy I am running 36,750 kb/s down and 1,537 kb/s upload to Washington State.

According to myspeed.visualware.com I am running 6.62 mbps down and 7.89 mbps upload to Tusan AZ.

......but not it is going on 25 minutes with only  384k downloaded.

IMAP has gone downhill.  Even when it is faster in the early AM and late PM it is still 5-10 slower than it was a couple of years ago.  Sounds like time for a new serveris needed.

The IMAP protocol is sensitive to the mailbox size. In other words the larger the mail box on the server, the longer it will take for IMAP to query records and return data. The IMAP protocol uses server side cursors therefore the mail client only submits the query and waits for dataset to arrive. Even the basic transactions such as browse message, delete, list, etc. will cause delays if your mailbox contains large number of messages.

I would buy that if I had not already limited my size on the server and taken alot off. See Graphic

    Disk Usage

The other things I did see is the report below, what are IMAP bad commands?  If it was my main client Thunderbird why is webmail and my mobile device seeing it slow also?  Is other customers see the same things?

Re: Email Concerns, Still Seeing Things

Clearly there is something else causing you problems. The amount of IMAP bad command errors your report is showing is highly unusual, here is what SmarterTools FAQ has to say about IMAP Bad commands.

IMAP Bad Commands - The number of bad commands that the mail server will accept before closing the connection with the email client (ending the session). Bad commands take place when the email client from a desktop computer sends a command out of sequence or when the Internet connection is interrupted. Each time the mail server interacts with a bad command, it taxes server resources. You are able to limit the number of bad commands to lighten the work load and bandwidth on the server. However, a limit too low will disallow some email clients to finish a session due to an unstable connection.

Our bad commands setting is configured to 8 which is default. This means if your client sends 8 or more invalid IMAP commands during a session, the server will close session and will abort any pending operation. This may explain why you experience poor performance, you IMAP client is constantly re-establishing sessions just to have them dropped due to IMAP bad commands.

This also may point to IP connectivity problems between you and the server. Run a tracert and post the results here, also when you ping the mail server, do you see a lot of dropped packets?

Re: Email Concerns, Still Seeing Things

I have removed the 3 methods I was using for IMAP access and just use webmail for a day or so and will see if it stops, if it does I will turn them back on one by one and see if I can determine anything with the client itself.
