I'm haivng a bit of a nightmare trying to get a site verified with Google. I've downloaded the HTML file and placed it in the site root (DNN 5 does not create a file of the right configuration) - the confirmation link on the google verification page shows that the file is there and the contents correct. But when I try to verify, google says it cannot contact the server or, infrequently, reports that the file has the wrong contents - quite different from what is shown when the file is accessed directy via the browser.

I have another site (4.7) with iHostASP and that verifies perfectly so I am puzzled. Any suggestions most welcome.

Check the URL google is using to access the verification file on the server for typos. Copy/paste the URL in to your web browser to make sure it is accessible. If you get "404 Not Found" or similar error, that means URL is invalid or host name is not resolving to our servers.
