We monitor our servers and key parameters that indicated certain conditions, but we do not monitor individual domains. Because our users can run any arbitrary code on their domains, there is no way to know if domain in question working correctly or not. Multiply that by 10K domains across several dozen servers and you get constantly shifting load and usage pattern.

The problems occur usually due to poor code quality, if someones site running poorly optimized queries on incorrectly placed indexes or is consuming too much system memory, it will degrade the performance of other sites on the same server and/or network. This is Achilles heel of shared hosting, everyone has to "behave" in order to not have problems. Of course this is also how you able to host complex web applications for the price of McDonald's happy meal or even less in case of resellers.

Hi Slavic,

Don't get me wrong I am very happy with the speed my site is now operating/loading at, Huge improvement over the previous server.

The question really was if this high demand site is on the new server will it just cope with it ok, or is there a chance that this site will continue to expand its requirements and put this server into the same situation as Mssql03 got into. I would presume it was not a new site because you would have picked up the problem quicker if it had been related to a recent change therefore is there a requirement for a background monitor that warns you of any percentage increase in requests from a given site?

You may be accessing the server during nightly backups (usually early AM hours GMT -5). Generally speaking we do not see much load on the CLE02SQL01 so far, it's practically idling. Furthermore, the speed of your site can vary based on many other factors not related to our servers or network at all.

Hi All,

Has everyone gone home since Mssql03 was fixed. Forum has gone very quiet!.

My site got moved from Mssql03 on Saturday to CLE02 and loaded with astonishing speed, as never seen before.

I've noticed however since Sunday it has slowed down a bit, don't get me wrong it's still loads quicker than it ever was before, and I wondered if the Database that was identified as using all Mssql03's resources had been moved to CLE02 and if it has what is to stop it having the same effect on this Server?
